Legends are made at home.

Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi a hero for Pakistani fans’, ‘Another Pride of Performance likely for Aisam’, ‘Aisam-ul-Haq a star of excellence’, ‘Aisam selected as Champion of Peace’,

Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi overshadows cricketers, lifts nation’, ‘Afridi asks players to seek inspiration from Aisam’. These are the headlines of various national and international newspapers and the common word in all of these is AISAM.

AISAM-UL-HAQ QURESHI is the best tennis player that Pakistan has ever produced. Playing in the biggest tournaments of the world, with the champions and history makers of tennis, Aisam surely has come a long way. Aisam started playing tennis at the age of 14 under the guidance of his mother, Nausheen Ihtisham, a former 10-time national champion.  Since that day, there was no looking back.

With dedication and hard work, Aisam soon became Pakistan’s Under-16 champion. Two years later, he became Pakistan’s Under-18 champion.  At that point, Aisam stepped up and aimed to play internationally. He got selected by ITF and soon became Asia’s top tennis player. Fortunately, the success did not get to his head but made him extra determined to strive for more and more.

In an interview with Dawn Newspaper on Tuesday, 13th April, 2016 Aisam showed his concern towards young rising tennis players who are indecisive to pursue tennis as a career. His exact words were, “Their families need to understand that tennis can be a professional career choice too”. Aisam believes that “Pakistan tennis has improved by leaps and bounds in the last five years but it has yet to get the kind of attention that cricket gets.

In year 2002, Aisam had to face the controversy that had taken much hype in Pakistan as he had paired with Amir Hadad, an Israeli for his doubles match at Wimbledon. During an interview, by Daily News on Tuesday, 12th July, 2002, Aisam was asked that will he be pairing with Hadad again, Aisam replied: “Why not? I don’t like to interfere religion or politics into sports. You can’t do this, you know. You have to keep sport as a sport and just enjoy it“. After Wimbledon, Qureshi and Hadad played the second round of US Open where they were acknowledged, for playing together, with the Arthur Ashe Humanitarian Award. Aisam happened to be the first Pakistani to receive this award.

For the period of 1998 and 2004 he has won 33 Singles and Doubles titles and ended up runner up on 20 occasions in international tournaments. In 2001 he was the first Pakistani to qualify for the Wimbledon Grand Slam Tennis Championship after a gap of 34 years.

2010 was a year of calamity for Pakistan. Being ruined by floods, ambushed by terrorism and humiliated over the cricket scandal, Aisam brought a ray of optimism for the people of Pakistan. For the very first time in his entire life, Aisam qualified in the finals of mixed doubles at the US Open, partnered with Kveta Peschke. He also qualified in the final of men’s doubles at US Open, with Rohan Bopanna. This diverted the attention of the citizens of Pakistan from the dreadful happenings to new prospects. People who loved tennis or not, all prayed for Aisam. Though, Aisam did not win the finals, but he surely did give his opponents, quite a run for the title.

In his first interview after his men’s double and mixed doubles finals of the US Open he said that since the start of the current year, his world ranking had become a lot better and was getting improved further. He said that his next target was Air and Masters Tournament in which eight top players and teams of the world take part.

Aisam created history for Pakistan by qualifying in the finals of the US Open. At the award ceremony of the final of men’s doubles match of the US Open, Aisam took the mic and addressed 15,000 people at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, which was accommodating the biggest crowd to watch a Grand Slam Doubles Finale. Aisam started with wishing ‘Eid Mubarak’ to Pakistanis and Muslims all over. “I want to say something on behalf of all Pakistanis,” he said. “It is the wrong perception that Pakistan is a terrorist country. We are friendly, loving, caring people and we want peace as much as you guys want it. May God love us all“. Millions of people were watching this on their television all over the world. Aisam continued, “There are extremists in every religion, but just because of them you cannot judge the whole country as a terrorist nation. I just wanted to get this message across as a Pakistani.” Together, with his doubles partner Rohan Bopanna they have created the Indo-Pak Express. In reference to Aisam’s message, his opponent, Bob said. “Just to give that message to everyone was very heartfelt. What they are doing is a lot more important than winning the U.S. Open.

Aisam-ul-Haq is surely a hero of Pakistani nation. The support of the whole nation is with him.

Me,Myself & I

Hello readers,

As pretty much everyone of you knows who I am, and for people who don’t, my name is Fahad Saleem, and I’m sitting today to pen down everything I know about me, which would have never happened if it wasn’t for a class assignment.

To start off with it, I’m a 22 years old individual who’s unsure about what he’s gonna do after he graduates (But! hey I can always become a shawarma vendor outside LSE if everything else goes in vain. Right :p) Initially, I wanted to be an engineer, but that plan took another turn when I completed my O levels, and I became pretty much sure that engineering wasn’t the thing for me. After going through several weeks of struggle, I finally managed to convince my parents to let me choose business subjects for my A levels, and that journey finally ended with me landing at LSE, or the “Lahore School for Everyone” as the world knows it. (Still don’t know how it is for everyone when you have truckload of assignments and presentations going on all the time).

Moving on to the things I do in my leisure time, I’m an avid console gamer, and I’d love to take down a Call of Duty player anytime, anywhere and anyday. I’ve participated in numerous gaming competitions as well in which I’ve secured podium positions. My love for PlayStation and gaming knows no boundaries, and I can definitely predict that our connection would go a long way.

Moreover I also like to read (if LSE ever allows me to) , and Dan Brown is my favorite writer, from The Lost Symbol to the Da Vinci Code, I’ve gone through the pages of almost all paperbacks that he has ever written.

Before it gets boring, and everyone’s gold fish attention span comes to an end, I’d love to talk about my favorite music, and my favorite artist is Kendrick Lamar, who is an American rapper, and the only rapper to be featured in the 100 most influential people in the world and not to forget, the only rapper to have performed in the white house. To sum it up, he is the most dexterous and purposeful rap lyricist of this generation. And seeing him perform live would undoubtedly be a major burden off my wish list.

“Live full, die empty”- Les Brown

Hello everyone! Your friendly neighborhood admin here.

As an intro to me and who I am, I’ll start with a mini backstory:

Let’s start with names, shall we? My full name is Haider Shah Qadri. I was Born during the chilly winds of November in Ottawa, Ontario Canada. I’m 22 years young and hobbies range from writing to sports and a drop of philosophy and science.

Writing has always been sort of cathartic to me. Stories, essays, blogs etc. all come as a hobby as well as a habit. I’ve always been a tad sporty whether it was basketball, soccer (football), weightlifting or my all time favourite sport is ice hockey. (For your interest try looking at highlights on Nhl.com you’ll get an idea what kinda sport it is)

The net my friend and I used all the time

I recommend trying batmanstreams.net for live sports events or official sites like FIFA.com or nhl.com

As a passion I play sports for enjoyment, but as well as a way to stay healthy. For anybody reading, I truly believe that the easiest way to a healthy life is via meditation and some sort of sport or physical activity. I’ve seen people from sub 50kg to 150kg, but because they balance their intake with some activity they remain relatively healthy! It’s also a great way to teach discipline and leadership, so go find your niche!

My interests also lean a little into Philosophy, poetry, and works of various intellects. (Even if their field is different from my own). For instance, the late Stephen Hawking was a world-renowned physicist. His contributions to quantum mechanics and singularity theories changed modern physics as we know it! Although we humans have advanced so far in these past few years, we still lack the understanding of so much, and that is what is fascinating! There is an endless universe above our tiny little ceiling of the place we call ‘home’ and we’re slowly peeling back the curtain on its mysteries. event-horizon.jpg

In the end, I only ever had one goal; to become a productive member of society and earn enough means to support myself. This ideology is what drives me.

True greatness is not found in fame, money or power, but the mark you leave onto the souls of others.

That’s all for now. I wish everyone all the best for this assignment!

Who am I?

By the age of 22, we’re supposed to have it all figured out because why not? I mean, if even after 2 decades you can’t figure it out and answer the quintessential

“who are you?”

“what are your goals and ambitions?”

“what do you want from life”

Type basic questions then what have you really done in life?

Well, at least this is what the World and primarily what are society thinks. I on the other hand, well, I beg to DIFFER. Yep, you heard it right! In this over overwhelmingly fast paced life of ours where everyone has entered this anonymous race of turning themselves into clones of one another, I try to take out a second to break free and unwind.

Which brings me back to the question we all are constantly badgered with, “Who are you?”  Well,It’s a constant road to self-discovery where every day brings a new revelation but since you asked, ill give it a try.

Born in Lahore, raised in Karachi and migrated back to Lahore, I’m a blend of two beautifully diverse cultures found within Pakistan. My salees Urdu and inability to converse in Punjabi  perfectly depicts this mixup.

Regardless of associating words like, “friendly” and “caring” to my personality while  growing up in school, it was only a decade and a half later that I realized how untrue my own perception was about myself. I conceived myself the way I probably wanted people to perceive me. Deep down however, I was an awfully shy kid. Making friends and showing any affection I had for them was a dilemma to say the least. One day, thanks to internet  and  my friend Google,  I diagnosed my self as a *DRUMROLL*

Hello-My-Name-Is-Introvert-768x549

If you’re wondering why I’m using medical terms to elaborate on my condition because 98% of the time, people that meet me believe that it’s some kind of disease.NOT.

A major part of discovering myself and figuring out who I am comes from being an introvert. Not aloof from the world, yet despite being in the center of everything I love to analyze everything. I believe I’m highly opinionated, (which btw isn’t a bad thing) I just have a take on every take, well mostly everything that interests me namely; Politics, Socio-Economic topics, Infotainment, Judgmental desi aunties and the messed up society we live in at large.

My transformation from a hardcore shy (read: introvert) kid to a not so shy rather confident and a more open-minded person came to happen post A’levels. Rejected from my dream university,  “LUMS” – The Harvard of Pakistan, I  landed into my backup university; LSE- Pakistan Edition. Coming out of a protective school environment, sitting with a complete group of strangers and due to lack of extracurriculars offered at university, I joined a world-renowned youth organisation and the rest is history. Whoever I am, Whatever I am or whatever i might become is due to my learnings from there. It’s one of those heart-warming achievements of my life.

Three years down the line, I can proudly say I’ve never felt more like myself. Everyday i make new mistakes and everyday I learn from them. I don’t have any regrets because i try to learn as  much as I can from it; everything is a lesson. Soon to be graduating as a marketing majors, i can finally say that even after much resentment, I did fall in love with LSE. It has given me memories to last a lifetime ♥

FUN FACTS

  • I often come across as an arrogant person mainly because im like a turtle who’s in its shell most of the time; I don’t act as a social butterfly
  • My parents thought my name would bring me badluck so they renamed me “Aska” for a week. Tsk, Desi Parents I tell ya.
  • I wanted to be a lawyer or an interior decorator. The 9 to 5 life never appealed to me.(LOL @that)
  • I love to travel! #wanderlust  unfortunately, you can’t travel for free therefore, there’s still a vast ocean to sail.

  • My bestfriend and I are Polar opposites
  • I’m in a romantic relation with CHAI; till death do us apart

  • ,I’m a sucker for Rom-com movies and find Starplus dramas to be awfully entertaining, no i kid you not. (Judge karne se guraiz farmaye, Allah is watching you)
  • Elif Shafak and Moni Mohsin are one of my favorite writers.
  • I love Qawali and poetry; i try to write sometimes too.
  • I love toy poodles NOT CATSSSS.
  • Basically,Eat Sleep Netflix and repeat and breathe!

My world revolves around me!

21 year old girl from Lahore, making a series of bad decisions yet enjoying life to the.jpg fullest. I’m Haleema Ali, probably the biggest attention seeking girl you’ll ever come across. Creating an issue out of nothing would be my favorite time pass though.

My mum and I are almost always fighting over the pettiest things and my 11 year old brother uses my left arm as his punching bag. I am the eldest yet the shortest and the clumsiest one among my siblings.

Friends, family and food – my life literally revolves around these three things. If I’m angry at you, bring me dark chocolate or McNuggets and we’re sorted. I’m a die hard Shahrukh Khan fan and if you say something against him, we’re done.

I love making friends! If you’re sitting next to me and we do not know each other, there is 99.9% chance that I will initiate a conversation and make you think that I’m the sweetest person you’ve ever met. Going here and there, smiling and making others laugh is what i’m best at.

alizehThey say opposites attract and I surely do believe this statement after being best friends with an introvert from over a decade. Shes the type of a person who will go to Kashmir with me and sleep at 10 pm because she is ‘too tired,’ Sigh. Its okay, Alizeh. I love you still.

Lastly, I’d like to tell a bit about my educational background. I’ve done my O & A’levels from Lahore Grammar School. I’m currently doing my bachelors from Lahore School Of Economics and my major is marketing. For the world, my university is a place for ‘everyone‘, but little do they know, LSE was my dream school since grade 6..

What do you want to be when you grow up? I want to be Happy that’s all.

My name Is Omer Sadiq. I am a candidate of Bachelors of Business Administration from Lahore School of Economics. To have a brief background of my schooling, I have done my A-levels from Lahore Grammar School. To define my educational career, it was a bit barmy. This was mainly because of the lack of interest I had in Science and Medical field. Later, as it’s said that you get to explore your real self once you walk through different aspects and take on challenges and rotations in your career which later have me discovered that business education is the one which I could excel in and have my skills polished to become a successful entrepreneur one day or a corporate personnel. Thus, the profound passion for having to learn about business and advancing media at a faster pace has what made me land into Marketing and Media degree even when I was offered a double majors degree in Marketing Finance. You must be thinking now why would one be coming into a under rated degree rather than a double majors degree?. Well, this is just a hypothesis which never has been proved.

Another dilemma that I encountered was the religion and university life. The very first question thrown at me in my selection interview at LSE was whether I would be preaching religion because of my religious belief which were evident through the beard that I have to follow Sunnah which has emotionally affected me that why do society judge on your appearances?. Beliefs are very personal and should not be questioned upon. When we get to study in other countries which are hubs for international students to come and have an exposure, everyone follows their own religion and beliefs which in my opinion should not be criticized upon and I can proudly say that I am a true Muslim and one’s race or religion does not affect my thoughts towards them. I follow fashion and fashion magazines and this does not doubt my beliefs.

Talking about my interest: I have a keen interest in football, now one would say ” maulvi hy, football khailay ga”?. Sorry people! I have been playing in regional teams for quite sometime and have accomplished a lot in terms of achievements I have. Moreover, I am a Millennial and this brings the tech savvy side of me. I am adept user of smart phones and I have keen interest in reading about gadgets and technological advancements in today’s dynamic world. Moreover, another surprising thing that people find in me is Poetry and I am a fan of FAIZ AHMED FAIZ AND ALLAMA IQBAL. Their poetry and meaningful thoughts they beautifully say through words is enticing. I recommend everyone to discover their very self in the first hand before so they can have self actualization with themselves. As it is said by ABRAHAM MASLOW:

“IF YOU ONLY HAVE A HAMMER, YOU TEND TO SEE EVERY PROBLEM AS A NAIL”.
